I had the TSB 2012 headlamps installed to replace my old lamps from Sewell. But I'm having two issues and hope someone can help:

1. I lost the auto level feature (where the lights go up and down when you first turn them on). I'm told that some 2012 headlamps have this feature (I'm not talking AFS) and some do not. Is this true? Have others lost this function?

2. When my headlights are turned on (not just the LEDs, but the headlights too) there is a faint whining sound coming from the headlamp units. Does anyone know what this is?

1. All models with HID/LED have auto-leveling, it should be functional.
2. The whining/buzzing is coming from the ballast, it is normal. Your old ones should have been making the sound as well, perhaps you just didn't notice it? (Unless it's louder than normal).

Any suggestions on what to do about the auto-leveling? It worked with the 2011 headlamps from Sewell, but not with the 2012 lamps. The body shop has no idea what to do to get it to work. The dealer (service manager) told me not all HID lamps have auto-leveling, so clearly they don't know what they're talking about.

Is the auto-level motor part of the headlamp itself? Or separate? I'm wondering if the headlamps I got from Sewell are flawed in any way.

I appreciate any help you can provide!

The leveling motor is on the headlight, nothing is different about it from 2011 to 2012. If it worked on the 2011, it should work on the 2012 lights.

Sewell said it's possible the leveling is a personalized setting that might have reset to off, and that I may need the dealer to program it back on. Is this a possibility?

Also, the body shop says it was a simple plug-and-play. Is it possible they installed something/plugged in incorrectly?

I would buy these right now shipped to Canada if I had the money, too bad I do not start work until July - I hope I can get the headlights for this price later this year. :'(

These will fit in a 2008 IS250 no problem right? Read about some fitting problems others had.

I don't think leveling is an option that can be turned off. Also, the leveling motor comes plugged in when you get the lights, unless they actually unplugged the leveling motors, it doesn't seem possible. If you take off the front engine bay cover, you can see the leveling motors and if they are plugged in or not.

it could be the fuse!
it is possible something got shorted during installation or maybe the harness wasn't wired correctly. In my 06 IS the AFS fuse is under the driver side dash panel (fuse # 17). It wouldn't hurt to check that fuse if you have an IS with AFS. I pulled this fuse out to get rid of the flashing AFS light and it also killed the auto level.

I went to the dealer today and had the service manager look at my car... he is a car nut and Lexus expert. He had a technician attach a diagnostic tool to my car. It showed an error with reading the auto-leveling motor, but no explanation as to why. No errors for the rear sensors, so that's not it. He also unscrewed the engine cover, and the motors are plugged in fine. And it is not a personalized feature that can be turned off.

The guy was at a loss as to why the auto-leveling was not working. He thought maybe the 2012 lamps that Sewell rewired to fit older cars for some reason may be incompatible with the auto-leveling.

To everyone with the 2012 TSB lights retrofitted... can anyone verify for sure if their auto-leveing is working?

The auto-leveling is the same motor for all years, and that wiring shouldn't have been touched by Sewell, unless it was by mistake. Strange indeed.
