Read it in a post somewhere else - I put it in the gap between the windshield and the dash. It stops the dash from rubbing against the window, and for the instrument cluster rattle, I simply tightened the screws on the cluster, and it doesn't rattle much at all. :3

I have rattles that only occur on cold days. After the car interior warms up, it goes away.

The rattle is coming from above the cluster gauge. When the car is still cold, I can push down on the leather part (the visor-ish part of the cluster). I can hear it when I go over bumps (very little bumps too).

Is the clips and felt fix the solution for this type of rattle?

Yes I believe this rattle would be fixed by the dash rattle TSIB which calls for replacing the dash clips and putting felt on everything. You can tell it's this if you can put very light pressure in the gap between the windshield and dash pad (like sticking your fingers in that gap). If that light pressure makes the rattling go away, that usually means the plastic clip right there holding the dash to the windshield is rattling.

Thanks for the heads up! Will give that a whirl on a colder day.

So would they fix this if my car is out of the 4yr warranty but still under 50K? It's my understanding that there is a TSB for this. Someone posted that Lexus would do a "complimentary" fix. Can someone attest to this? Thanks

The factory warranty is 4 year/50k miles. What that means is the warranty will run for 4 years from the in-service date, OR until the car reaches 50k miles. So if the car has 0 miles on it but it's 4 years and a day old, the warranty is up. Same thing if the car is a day old but has 51k miles.

There is a TSB for the dash rattle. However, a TSB is not a recall - TSBs are still subject to warranty coverage, and in this case the dash rattle TSB is ONLY covered by the 4 year/50k mile warranty. If you're out of that warranty, you have to pay for the repair yourself out of pocket. And it's a very involved and expensive repair - out of pocket it will cost you $1000+ because they have to remove the entire dashboard and insulate everything then replace it, all of which takes several hours.

I have never heard of a dealership doing a "complimentary" fix for this TSB, because it's so involved. My dealer did a goodwill fix for the windshield molding cracking, but that's because it takes 10 minutes and the parts are ~$100. I won't say it's never happened, but I've never heard of it happening.

That's what I thought. Just to be clear as the title of the thread might be misleading, my rattle is coming from right behind the steering wheel and appears to be the black plastic that surrounds the gauge cluster. Hoping that someone out there has undertaken this DIY job and can offer some suggestions. Thanks!

The only thing i can advice is to take it apart and try fixing it. It is not complicated, anyone with a little mechanic skill can fix it.

Can you post pics of the fix and the specific rubber insert you bought and used?
