Cheap remote start any good?
Whats up guys, I am interested in getting a remote start for my 250 but after looking around I found that they range anywhere from 50-600 bucks. I found these two on ebay and was wondering if anyone here had tried them out or could tell me anything about them. The first one actually seems pretty legit. What you think?

i wouldn't go with a cheap one. cheap ones always have problems down the road and just like carlos said "you better find a damn good installer". You dont want some rookie cutting and tapping into wires and causing a big mess in the electrical system

I personally wouldn't do it. It seems to be accepted among the automovie community that remote starters damage ignition components over time hence why it isn't offered as a factory option on most vehicles. Had it been a auto friendly component manufactures would have easily offered it as a $1000+ option on vehicles.I know theres a chevy you can start with an iphone and a few other cars that have it but in general esp if your going with an aftermarket started i wouldn't do it.

The 1st one doesnt look bad, but honestly just as others wrote. You really need to get a legit installer to do it. I have one on the Acura Integra I just sold to a friend and its worked perfectly for 7 years. But this is a Lexus...And you will want top quality.

If you're buying anything alarm related, buy from a reputable manufacturer like DEI (Directed Electronics). And as others have said, an alarm is only as good as the installation. A $20 alarm is more effective than a $500 alarm if the $500 alarm isn't installed correctly. Make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing with all the electronics and knows how to hide the wiring well.
But really, don't cheap out on the actual alarm either. You'll hate yourself when you have to pay labor costs to replace parts or determine why the alarm doesn't work properly.

I asked the Lexus dealer about this option when I bought my IS350 and they said they do not install them anymore. They claimed the demand was low and the risk was high. I prefer my Smart Card anyway. No key chain for me.
