This one got me thinking so I ran out to my garage, locked my car, opened the trunk, then tossed in my keyfob and closed the trunk. As soon as I closed the trunk my car beeped at me. I walked over to the doors and tried to open them. Yep, they were locked. I then walked around to the trunk and tried to open it via the trunk button. The trunk opened right on up.
My IS is a 2011, so there may be a year difference and my battery on my keyfob is still new.
Did you try opening the trunk?

maybe its a bug, when I have tried many scenarios including "accidently" dropping my key in the trunk, which I have done before on my previous car. And the trunk wont lock. The only time my car gets confuse is when both keyfob are in the proximity.

Pretty sure it works on my 2010.
I've thrown my gymbag into the trunk along with my jeans & keyfob inside a good few times. If I press on the trunk button that's next to the rear license plate, it opens the trunk.
Perhaps it depends on how far inside the trunk the keyfob is? Or like others said it could be a bug fix for newer 2IS.

If you lock your trunk with the switch next to the glove box first, and then you lock your fob inside the trunk, you are SOL. Nothing will open and the car will not start unless you use another fob or the metal key. Unless you break your car like our comrade did.

I realized this when i threw my gym bag with keys in the trunk. Luckily i was home and just had to run downstairs to get the spare. Still a lot better then when i would forget my accord keys in the ignition and would have to bump the key lock to open it.
