That's a bit long... However I've had a terrible experience (Subaru not Lexus though) where they let me drive off the lot not once but twice and had the car die on me a block away. They claimed they couldn't replicate the problem, so the final time they took it for a 25 mile test drive to make sure it was absolutely fixed. This was with subaru like I said, but maybe just talk to the service manager like everyone's saying and voice your concern, you never know it might have taken a while to duplicate the problem, then make sure it was fixed.

Your car got raped! Sorry to hear. I would definitely voice your concern with the service manager and go from there. The miles won't come back but at least let them know.

I don't think that it's that bad. My dealership did the same thing and I was pissed, but then they told me they had several techs drive it to try and replicate the rattle I had on different roads (over a couple days since they couldn't hear anything). Once they got it out beyond the dealership to experience the roads I drive daily, they found the noise.

I would ask you service manager why the mileage is so high. If the response isn't related to driving to isolate the rattle, then I would ask them to fill your tank a couple times. Those other things (tmps, and DRL) like you said, don't require mileage to fix.

^ They drive the hell out of your car while its in their hands. I know because I got mine back after they filled the tank and gave it a little "road test" and my tank AVG was something like 9.x MPG

Sounds excessive. My car usually comes back with 0 or 1 mile added which makes me wonder if they did anything to it at all... Maybe ask for a full tank of gas as a good will gesture?

I took their loaner on a 400 mile roadtrip once :P

So they actually called me to see if I was satisfied with the service and I told them that it was excessive and suspicious. He told me they often have to drive MORE than that to duplicate rattles.

Isn't the rattle a known issue? Besides I drive less than 2 miles to work and hear it all the time.

He told me it wasn't a joy ride because the technician that had my car was mature, married (irrelevant?!) and their Team Leader.

He offered me 2 gallons of gas. How insulting?!

The conversation was going no where...he just kept saying he wanted to give me a courtesy call and his door is always open if I want to discuss anything.

This was the Service Manager, btw.

Should I contact Lexus directly or just let it go?

I think you should express your concern to the dealer manager that is very excessive and not cool at all. I always take pictures once I drop it off (dated) and take a few afterwards. Not the 1st time Ive heard of this happening.\\

Edit

Just saw your last post, if its bothering you this much I would tell the manager Im going to escalate the issue further because Im not satisfied with your customer service and your rims scrapped. If he did nothing, I would surely escalate it higher. In the end, its us who keeps Lexus a company not HIM, we pay for his salary by purchasing our cars and them not "Making good the situation" is not worth them loosing future purchases at that dealership.

I dont know about your car being "raped" but I have seen instances that techs will have to drive the vehicle for an extended amount of time to get the rattle to "come out" how many times have you gone in then the service rep says they didnt hear anything. I feel like you guys on here have to give the dealership credit sometime. I dont know why everyone's first reaction is to run to the manager...

would you rather return the car in after a couple of days for that same rattle and be irritated? say how could you not hear it!? or have them make sure they found the rattle and fixed it right the first time?

... smh its an IS350.. not an LFA for god sake! they've got 10 more in the back of service and I can imagine 1/2 the staff drives lexus' too!
