Default Help With Gas Mileages! Is250

As some of you may know, I drive a 2006 IS250. My parents bought it CPO from Keyes Lexus and I've been driving it since. I have read around that some people get 25-30 mpg with their is250 and 350. I am averaging 20-22mpg... This is mostly local. I do not drive the highway much but then again, I do not even drive past 3.5k rpm. The only times I would floor my car would be at 1/10th gas tank. My overall average mpg atm on my car is 21 and my tank average with driving locally at the range of 2.5k-3.5k rpm without flooring it is 20.5mpg... Is there something wrong with my baby?
If there is anything I can do, would you fella's point me to the direction? Thanks in advance
-Sean

Nope sounds about right to me. Our cars are rated at 21 city 29 highway I think. I saw 19mpg when my daily commute was 4 miles round trip haha...I miss the days I lived close to work.

What's your mpg while cruising at 60-70mph? There's an instantaneous mpg option when clicking through your display. Should be 30ish

Hmmm yeah, I cruised around 80mph for 100miles and got about 32mpg.
I just thought 21 was low xD
Thanks for your response mate!

i get 18.5-19.5 tank mpgs during commute in city traffic. thats reflective of about 8-12 MPH average.

but if im cruising at 70 on the highway im at 32.

theres a huge discrepancy with highway vs local. i usually put in half a tank at a time, which barely covers half a week of round trip commutes @ 8 miles each way. although if i put in half a tank before a road trip, i could travel for almost 3 hours.

as far as im concerned, the rated MPGs for the 250 are overrated for city, and underrated for highway. expect 19 city, 32 highway

I wouldnt compare your car with a totally different car. Manual trannys are more efficient, and gearing has alot to do with it. Mileage is also affected by driving habits. Flooring it all the time, will lead to less MPG. Road conditions and traffic also effect MPG.

Your MPG figures seem about right for non-highway use.

I've had my IS250 for just over two years and over the course of 27K miles I have averaged exactly 32.0 mpg per the computer (yes, i know the actual is probably about 2 mpg less). About 70% of those miles were highway.

that sounds about right, city driving is a lot different than highway driving.

Exactly. I usually average 17-19 in the city and about 29-32 on the highway. Highest ive acheived was about 38 mpg cruising on the highway omw to new york just laying of the accelerator and letting the good times roll.

yup city traffic will put you at 17-19. i think the gearing of the smooth-as-butter 2.5L engine is actually terrible when it comes to city MPGs...because for an engine that small, city MPG should be MUCH better than 17-19.

I average about 20mpg on my IS350 in city driving. I think saving gas is most affected not by how hard you floor it on take off (I keep RPM under 3k most of the time though), but how often you let your car coast to a stop.

Agreed, it depends on driving conditions and your numbers sound right because I get around there and higher city. At pure freeway speeds it's definately higher.

Gotta time those lights better haha I get just about 25mpg in city driving just by coasting to lights instead of accelerating, stopping, and then having to go again. Coast to the light (as long as you're not obstructing flow of traffic by doing so) and you'll get a bit better MPG in the city. Stop and go is the worst!
