Default Car Battery Life...?

I have an 07 IS with 65,000miles... Just wondering how long are car batteries last? I live in Buffalo NY so the car goes through some pretty cold winters (excluding this year, summer rims are already on)

I'm about to have a system installed on thursday nothing crazy just a simple JL audio 10" sub with JL amp and wiring kit. Was just wondering if it would be a good time to buy an Optima battery or am I just wasting money and is it to soon to think about battery replacement? Any thoughts.....

if its the original panasoic those things are intense ive seen people still using them I repalced mine with a yellow top because i have an audio system but I never had an issue at all...love that thing. Have it bench tested free at autozone or something the system your putting up wont need an optima battery the alternator on this car is pretty good. Besides a battery would just mask an electrical issue for a short period of time and kill the alternator even with my system the battery is just incase someone turns on the car and i happen to have had the stereo on loud or something...it dosent add more amperage infact the bigger the battery the more drain on your overall set up.

The battery in my 08' died at 65k miles so I'm thinking you'll be replacing your battery sometime in the next year or so. I replaced mine with a $100 Duralast battery from Autozone and my car is just fine. I think it starts better than before but that may be wishful thinking...

Mine died at about 75,000 miles. I could hear it struggling to crank a day or two before it happened.

Go with the Everstart battery from Wal-mart. They are highly rated by Consumer Reports, and come with a non pro-rated warranty. If it dies (I think within 36 months) they give you a completely new one for free, with no pro-rated value deduction for how long you had the original one. Save your receipt.

Just a tip- I've never had to actually provide a receipt when exchanging a battery at a walmart.

Haven't had to in a few years so maybe they've changed this, but for a couple decades up through the mid 2000s at least a walmart battery was pretty much a free lifetime replacement

That said, my factory battery was replaced, under warranty, at 3.75 years and about 25k miles when in for one of the recalls because they noticed a bad cell (car seemed to be working fine at the time)

While on the topic of OEM batteries...how do you tell if it's an OEM battery and if it's original to the car? I know aftermarket batteries have bubble-type things that you can poke out for the month & year...but I do not see such things on my battery.

I replaced my battery in January this year with 64K miles. On my last oil change last year, the tech. told me I needed a new battery. The battery would still start the car. No problem! If I did not drive my car for a day or two, I would have problems starting the car. For the holidays, I did not drive my car for two weeks and I had to jump start the car every morning. New battery from Auto Zone $120 and I haven't had any issues.
If your oil service is due soon, ask them to test your battery.

A battery life span isn't typically connected with mileage. It has more to do with age. Some people put 30k on their car in a year, while others may only put 10k on theirs. The Lexus batteries do seem to be much better than other OEM batteries though. A typical new car battery is usually being replaced within the first three to four years. If you get more than that from a factory battery, consider yourself lucky. Climate plays a HUGE roll in the life of a battery. More batteries fail in extreme cold and extreme heat. As several others have said, have it tested. If tests good, don't sweat it. I have a tester that tells me what percentage of my batteries rated CCA it is actually producing, which is a good indicator of whether it will need to be changed soon. Bought a new one for my Honda for this very reason.

I'm at that stage. 07 350 with 41k. Still going strong bit when I look in the little window, I see yellow. The manual said suppose to look green. Also, I don't like how the aftermarket batteries looks. They tend to not have that little window. Good to know I can get it replaced for an oem under warranty.

Almost 80k and original battery still going; don't see signs of dying yet.
