IS250 License plate bulb DIY or new housing?
hi guys! new to the forum. I'm wondering if anyone's got a DIY for changing the license plate bulb. Before anyone says anything I realize that the bulb is already LED but everything on my friends car is 6k kelvin and the lighting for the plate is just too yellow and throws off the entire car at night.
are there any detailed DIY's for changing the bulb? Already managed to take everything off but not sure how to crack open the gray housing without breaking it.
I work with computer components all the time so I have no problem with soldering. Also if anyone knows if a aftermarket vendor sells housings with 6000 kelvin LEDs already installed thats any option we can run with as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!! :]
edit: also i did run through the search engine and couldn't find anything other than people telling the OPs not to do it lol..

Supposedly it's intergrated so cannot be replaced without replacing the assembly.
There is a member that did replace their LED because it burned out. - wasn't easy; but more like a work around. Unfornately I forgot which member it is but this person would know. I believe it is either CCJ22 or chi123 who did it.

There's no direct replacement since it's not a removable bulb. It's LED already like you said but it's like 4300K in color. There's no aftermarket direct replacements that I know of yet. I wanted something 5000K to 5500K so I tapped a flat and brighter LED over the stock housing and spliced it into the wires. Looks much brighter and whiter but to do it, you got to take apart the whole trunk and yet it looks a bit ghetto.

THX SANGO!! looks like im just gonna have to dremel that bad boy open. was planning to do the same thing, cut and then seal with silicon or something. does anyone know the voltage feed that goes into the bulbs? I might just destroy everything and keep the retention bracket and do up a new wiring diagram with the old female header to the new bulb.

Usually the voltages vary from time to time so its better to just use a regulator to keep it at 12v since it varies so high and low. I like to use the Sharp 12v regulators whenever I make a LED set up from scratch. If you can find the white Nichia superfluxes, that would be probably the best option as a custom set up
