Hello,
I am new here, so sorry if this has been covered already...I didn't see a similar post. I drive my IS 250 for work, mostly highway miles, and I have about 190k miles on it. I have never had any major work done to the car. Only brakes, tires, regular synthetic oil changes etc.
I am recently divorced (and broke, thanks to the lawyers, so going to the dealership is out of the question) and my husband took care of all the car stuff before, so I could really use some advice about what servicing the car needs now. Are there belts/hoses to replace? Any engine servicing that needs to be done? I can't have my car break down since I need it for work...any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

You can check out the spark plugs, engine coolant, all filters (engine, cabin, air conditioner).
You can also read this thread of a member who surpassed 250k miles:

Fortunately its a pretty simple maintenance routine as others have mentioned. Oil/filter every 5k, air and cabin filters every 15, brake fluid every 30K, spark plugs at 60K coolant every 100K. Other than that keep an eye on the belts, hoses, tires, and brake pads.

The one watch-out here is I'd check to find out the last time the spark plugs were changed. The manual recommends every 60k miles, so you should have just had them done 10k miles ago. If you didn't have that done, and especially if you didn't have that done back at 120k, I'd look into getting this done. Unfortunately it's going to be fairly expensive - $400-500.

With the IS, it's generally regarded:
Every 5k-10k miles should be an oil change. Most people change at 10k when using synthetic (I myself included). Oil changes should be $50-70 or so depending on oil (conventional vs synthetic)
Every 5k clean your filters and change them out at 15k (engine and cabin). I personally have a lifetime filter and a regular OEM filter from Lexus. Every 5k I'll take it out, clean it and let it dry. For the 3 days or so it takes to air dry, I use the regular filter (if I even drive at all). Engine filter's about $40? I believe and the cabin filters about $15.
Every 30k change your brake fluid. I do this myself for about $15-20 for fluid but I know my dealer charges $70 to do it.
Every 60k change your spark plugs. Probably the only thing I wouldn't do myself (hassle) and with a 250 I don't like the idea of leaving your inlets open with my dusty environment. I have my dealer do it for $290 parts and labor.
Every 100k ad/change your coolant. Don't know on cost as I've yet to change it.
That's about all that needs to be done on intervals. Everything else is just normal wear and tear and you change when needed including:
Changing serpentine belt when it starts to crack, wear and glaze. I had mine changed at about 55k miles. It really depends. You'll most likely hear a squeaking/squealing sound as I did when it's time. I was covered to fix my water pump bearing under warranty so I bought the belt for $40. Actual labor costs I don't know.
Change brake pads and rotors. My pads last me to about 30k miles or so. About $70 per end (so $140 front and back) and rotors are about $200 per end if I recall correctly. But my rear rotors lasted me to about 60k miles while my fronts I prematurely wore them so I replaced them at 30k. I've done another 30k already and they're perfectly fine. Mainly depends on the type of driving and your driving style.
I don't believe there's any other maintenance. Keep in mind if you do decide to bring it to the dealer, go on their website and look for coupons. Also make sure to ask for SPECIFIC services and NEVER say the "30k service" or whatever. It costs less. For example, my dealer wanted $600 to do my 60k service and another $700 to do my brakes PER END. So that's a total of $2000! I said no and came back later and found spark plugs only is $331+tax. I scheduled it and found a 12% off coupon on their website and saved an extra $40. Brakes are about $550 in parts and it'll take me a morning to do myself (if I did all of it at once). That's it.
Hope that helps!
