Tire flys off stock IS wheel, Lexus says its normal?!?!?!?!?

Ill check the make when I get the car, its the tires that came with the car guys. I bought the car brand new, it has never been in a shop for new tires. I dont even drive fast, just not me which is why I opted for the 250. I am just not a speeder, more just like to cruise and such.

Trust me, I am not saying its Lexus fault, but dont try and lie to me and make up some bull about the wheels having a extremely UNSAFE safety feature. I am thinking the puncture may have just happened really quick and caused this. Just glad my wife and I are safe and no one else was hurt when the tire flew off. Its a bit scary when you see that fly off.

You should always check your tires before going to drive your car, that's safety for yourself, and do not trust to technology stuff.
I think it's only drivers fault in like this situations.
PS: sometimes Lexus Techs have no clue what *** they're talking about.

Ouch that looks bad. I'm glad you're safe though. If it makes you feel any better, this happened to me with my stock Bridgestones..twice. After that, I did some research and found that a major cause is under inflated tires. So with that puncture, the air must of leaked pretty quickly for it to shred right after the TPMS light went off. It's wrong for the dealership to tell you it is a safety precaution. It makes no sense.

that is total BS of the service advisor to say that ....safety feature LoL.....so what happen when you get in a car accident and get ejected toward the windshield is that a safety feature so you won't get crush in the car??....

1st.. tire was severely deflated (cant rely on tpms)
2nd.. u must have been driving for quite some time for the rim to chew through the sidewalls
it doesnt matter what kind of driver u are, no air is still no air.
how did u not feel or know that something was off while driving?
imo, with 16k on oem tires the dealers cannot do anything for u nor is it their fault. yes its total BS what they said but its the dealers, did u expect more from them?

Tough to say what could have caused this. But most often it's from under or over-inflation or a previous flaw/leak in the tire from running over something or scraping the sidewall. Then all things come together at a certain time/temperature and boom. Just glad you didn't lose control and wreck. That's minimal damage considering what happened.
I wouldn't persue Lexus. I would have a tire store investigate, as they deal with tires all day long and can tell you further info regarding defects or wear and tear.

Usually this happens when your tire is under inflated. Your side walls take the load of the car and eventually the sidewalls disintegrate and the tread portion of the tire is separated from the rim. The OP's issue is actually less likely to happen on a semi because of the double wheels. If a tire goes flat on a semi, the whole weight of the trailer doesn't rest on that one wheel and cause it to rip through the sidewall.
OP...good luck with the tire company. If you did in fact pull over almost immediately, I can't imagine a tire company not honoring a replacement/new rim.

The puncture apparently caused the tire to fail like this, but now its going to cost me $1700.00 to fix it. The estimate shows $950.00 in parts, and all the rest in labor for the body work.
