Default Engine covers

Do the covers in the engine bay offer any kind of significance? I'm thinking about taking them (all the black ones) off and just trashing them.

this is what I've come to find:

- "Pretty up" the engine
- help keep dust/dirt/water out
- sound suppressant

- retains heat

I find the covers to be a huge nuisance whenever I wanna do something under the hood. You think if I lined the underside of the covers with some padding that it'll surpress more of the engine noise? I can't see retaining heat a good thing. Seeing as i was adjusting the headlights and the fan kicked on and the rush of engine heat almost burned my face off lol

Shot stick your hands in there while the engine is running. Just a safety tip.

I was just turning the headlight **** for the driver headlight so my hands weren't even close to being in the engine but I get what you're saying.

I'll take 'em if you don't want them.

I think they're mainly cosmetic. The 2IS doesn't exactly have the prettiest looking engine.

I'm also thinking about taking them off and just getting the main cover in the middle painted! Definitely just get in the way, but I'd keep em if I were you just incase you want to get rid of your car, it'll look better to have them.
