Default QUESTION: Painting my headlights today

I managed to remove the headlights. I'm having a tough time figuring out how to separate the lens from the main black housing. I found three screws that looked relevant. the little tab-catches are hardened plastic - broke one using a screwdriver thinking it was pliable. I found the Oracle video but he seemed to skip over the step where I'm stuck. Any help is appreciated.

Did you bake them in the oven to hear the glue first?

Search the "Koji mod" on any Subaru forum.
They have extensive how-tos on this mod (especially NASIOC).

Let us know how it turns out!

I believe that the bake step is after i get the big housing off [I don't think that this is the part that I need to bake to separate].

definitely will

thanks for the suggestion, but I think that I need to see an actual lexus headlight to get over this speed bump. I must not be using the right 'search words'

You have to bake them to separate the big housing from the clear lens. Stick them in the oven and then pry them apart when the glue loosens up

It's easy to open the headlights, all you have to do is take the three screws on the side off. Then bend back the black tabs that hold the black housing to the lens. And bake it. Toss the headlight in the oven and put it to 250 degrees. Take it out after ten minutes and try pulling apart starting by the inner turn signal. Then put it back in the oven for 5 more minutes and pull apart. It should come apart but you got to use some muscle to pull it apart.

Here's mine in the oven when I opened mine.

+1 on the comment above.... you would figure I knew that sticking something like a headlight in an oven would make it slightly hot... -_-

When I am doing retrofits for people, I usually pre-heat the oven. Then I stick in the headlights. It's to avoid melting or deforming the headlight.
