trans / engine whine
hello all. I'm new here. Just picked up my first Lexus last week coming from Audi a6. I bought a black is350 certified prepared. I've noticed when accelerating I can hear a noticeable "whine" either from the engine or tranny. Sound is similar to a whine you'd hear from a supercharger. obviously that isn't what it is, just an example for a point of referance . Is this normal? Any ideas as to what it could be? I don't want to talk to the dealership and sound like an idiot lol.

Normal. Many new owners (including myself) ponder this as well, there are lots of threads on it.

if you take off the cooling plate in the engine bay you'll really get a whine, sounds SC'd

Yeah its normal, sometimes I just hate how it sounds and just want to get an exhaust to hide the sound

I'm not a fan either, but the F-Sport exhaust covers it up pretty effectively!

Just curious on what the experts here think contribute to that sound?
The timing chain? Something else?
Do any other Lexus/Toyota engines sound alike?

From my research, it's caused by the timing chain.
Sometimes when I'm accelerating from a dead stop I won't even hear it which is weird...

the 350s have supercharger by stillen that's why you hear the wine when you mash the pedle.

I'm a new owner and was wondering the same thing. Good to hear that it is normal. Although not as noticeable it reminds me of my friends integra in high school that had amp whine from an aftermarket install.
F-sport inktake next up...
