Default JDM visors repair

Hi guys havent been here for a while!

i had part out my '08 IS250 for a new 2012 version . i had to take off my old visors and i want to plan on putting them on the new one.

thing is now, the 3M tape is now worn out and which 3M tape is appropriate to buy and spruce it back up?

i already tried this 3M foam tape that stuck on for a good year and a half year then it got loose again.

got any better type?

I usually use the 3M high performance acrylic (gray with red release tape). As an example, the 1/2" wide, .090" thick tape is part number 06394. You can search for it online to find it. I think for the visors I used a 1/4" wide tape with a .030" thickness since you don't need it that thick.

I buy mine online from TCP Global. They're near San Diego but ship anywhere. And they carry all sizes. You can search them on the web. FYI.

Good luck!

should i cut off the old 3M tape from the visors as well to help not make it looks so chunky once i put them back on?

Yes you should always remove the old tape before putting on some new ones. It will look bulky with 2 layers but more importantly is durability. When the old tape fails, the visor will come off again. Applying new tape will be useless since the old tape is causing the visor to fall off.

As a hint, you can remove the old tape by stretching it like a rubber band. Grab an end and pull away from the tape, in a parallel direction. This will cause the tape to stretch and release it from the surface of the visor. If you have the cheaper foam tape, lots of peeling and goo gone will help.

nice okay. so should i be using the red/gray 3M tape i know those are for usually heavy things that i'd want to mount like a rear or roof spoiler or so. These would for the same too right? idk how long id want the visors to stay on but i dont want another incident if i were to take these off. they were a in a the butt to take off the first time and i kinda dented the it a bit when i was parting out.

These will hold. I think you want them to hold rather than fall off or have someone easily rip them off.

When you remove them, stretch it like a rubber band and it removes easily. But don't pull too fast or too hard. If you do, then it'll break. But if you do it slowly, you can remove it in one piece with very little effort.

Agreed. Use 3M's automotive acrylic plus attachment tape.

Preparation is the key. Remove all old tape residue. Make sure the mounting point is free of dirt, wax or any kind of residue. Use 50% water/ 50% isopropyl alcohol solution to clean and prep the area. You can also apply 3M's adhesion promoter to increase the bonding of the tape's surface onto the trim.

definitely use the adhesive promotor and use a heatgun to heat up the tape untill you see little bubles forming! at that point it will be ready to adhere and never come off! at least mine has not.
