trade-in my 2008 is350 for a lease 2012 is350
hi fellow cl members, long time member and forum reader, wondering if anyone can give me some opinions and advise on my current situation
i am currently in a position to get a new 2012 is350, the deal is for 3 year lease, they are offering the car at invoice minus 1000 for previous lexus owner, 700 off for IS monthly special rebate, and another 1000 off for dealership discount, basically i have the choice of any is350 awd/rwd that i want color, options, assessories or packages, etc for 38-43k depending on whats available and where its located
i have a 2008 is350 with 28k miles and about 7 months left on factory warranty and they will offer me 25k for it
my question is this a good deal, never leased a car before always have bought with a loan
also i test drove yesterday the only is350 awd they had on the lot, and personally didnt feel as nimble and responsive as my rwd, does anyone else feel like that, also the new is350 is much louder ie the intake and exhaust can be heard from the inside which isnt a bad thing but wondering if anyone else with a new is350 noticed that
any advise and opinions are very welcomed
thanks

I think moving from a IS350 to another IS350 isn't a big change. I would just stick with your current IS or I would at least wait to hear more about the next-generation IS since that's supposed to come out one of these days. You could use this chance to switch to a different car like a ISF or even something outside Lexus you've wanted to try.

If I were you, I'd hold on to my current IS until the new body style comes out. If you like the new body style, you will be glad you waited. If you don't, then you'll be able to get an even better deal on the current body style. If you keep your car for more than 3 years and/or if you like to mod your vehicle, I would not recommend leasing.

Two things jump out at me. One, depending on the options, your car's worth at least a few thousand more than $25k. That's very low mileage and 7 months of factory warranty is huge. I'd say you'd be looking closer to $30k (unless your car is really sparsely optioned). You'd expect this of course, as a dealer will offer you less than it's worth so they can flip it, but you might want to consider selling it private party and capture the extra few thousand. You should keep in mind the tax implications, however. I know in many states if you trade in a car at the same time as buying one, you only pay sales tax on the difference. I don't know how this works with leases.
Two, if I were you I personally would never consider this. There are extraordinarily few differences between the 2008 and the 2012. Unless you're going from RWD to AWD or from no options to a bunch of options, I just don't see any reason at all to move from a 350 to a 350. Particularly given your car is so low-mileage and has so much warranty left. If your car was out of all warranties, it might be a different story. But you've got years ahead of you on the factory and powertrain warranties.
I just see no reason at all for moving from one presumably paid-off, or mostly paid-off, 350 to another 350 that will cost you much more.
I'm curious, what are your reasons for considering this?
