I have run Michelin's for about 20 years now & never have any problems. Love my new SuperSports but I will say I was surprised that mine had some minor cosmetic imperfections thou different from yours.

How old are the tires?

in one of the sidewalls you'll see a full DOT number that ends with 4 numbers like 3411, first 2 digits are week last 2 are year so 3411 would be 34th week of 2011

Final Verdict: Sorry for the delay. I had kidney stones, so playing with my tires wasn't at the top of my list. ;-) Although an abrasive rag and various cleaners didn't solve the problem, steel wool did. I actually found a magic eraser worked even better.

I haven't checked on the dates of my tires, but thought I would let everyone know the resolution because I honestly thought it was a defect.

I'm glad to hear everything is well. I was banking on cosmetic and figured a rag would do the trick. Nice to know magic eraser works on everything haha

I used a rag and various cleaners and none of them did the trick (despite scrubbing so hard my arm almost fell off), which is why I was convinced it was a defect...but steel wool and the magic eraser worked wonders. You are right those magic erasers are the bomb. I should just start carrying one with me all the time. :-)
