Whatever works the best. I didnt have to do any sanding. Just filled in the hole, let it dry, and applied the touch up paint.

That piece is actually plastic... I had the holes in my trunk plastic welded then had the cover re-painted. You own a Lexus... don't cheap out.

That's extreme but definitely the best way to go about doing it. It's not going to rust because it's plastic (also mentioned). You can just seal it with the aforementioned pastes and use touch up paint given the hole is small enough. It's a simple fix.
