Default Service Schedule - 2009 IS250 - 14k miles

Hi everyone! This is my first post so please be gentle

I am just about to close on a '09 IS250 with 14,000 miles on it. I had a mobile mechanic take a look at the car and analyze the on-board computer - everything seemed to check out well.

I don't plan on exactly following the service schedule provided by Lexus. I looked at some of the threads here and it seems like the servicing my car every 5k miles (besides changing oil) is a bit of an overkill and is pretty costly. However, if I want to follow the service plan right now to an extent, should I have a Lexus service center follow the maintenance plan at 15k miles or 36 months (approximate age of the car). I plan on taking my car in anyways for an oil change (synthetic).

Thanks!

NP

I would just change the oil with synthetic, change the cabin & engine filter and be done.
The last 2 are just super easy to do yourself, so might as well
I don't see any reason for anything else.

Welcome to CL!

First, don't ever go into a dealer and ask for the "X miles" service.

They'll charge you 3x the actual cost of what you need done and not do anything extra.

What a RWD 2IS actually needs done for scheduled maintenance-

Every 5k miles- Oil change (it doesn't need it anywhere near this often, especially with synthetic, but going by the book here)

Every 15k- Check air/engine filters (you can change these yourself for free in about 5 minutes each if needed)

Every 30k- Change brake fluid

Every 60k- Change spark plugs

Every 100k- Change coolant.

That's it

Anything else is the dealer selling you crap you don't need.

At my dealership for example an oil change is $50.

The 10k mile service is $120.

Know what you need done by the book at 10k miles?

An oil change.

Like I said, don't ever go into a dealer and ask for the "X miles" service.

I hope you enjoy your Lexus! It's the most reliable car you can get. Luxury without costly maintenance. All you need at the dealer is what Kurtz said, other than that the rest of the maintenance items are pretty standard on every car, brakes etc...
