agree on this one, the filter is more important than the oil itself IMO. I change every 5k always, but i'm also ridiculous.

As always UOA is the best way to know what's best for YOUR car in YOUR conditions... but that said:
Every single used oil analysis I've ever seen for the 2IS says if you're changing every 5k or less you're pouring money down the drain.
I've never seen a bad UOA, even with conventional oil, up to at least 10,000 miles.
Nearest to bad I've seen is when people push past 10k on the same filter.
These engines are very, very easy on oil.
It's not the 1950s anymore, there's no good reason to be changing every 3-5k with normal use/driving, no matter what oil you use.
Synthetic changed once a year should be perfectly fine up to 15-20k at least (with a filter change halfway through)... up to at least 25k with a higher end synthetic like Amsoil (probably changing the filter say every 8333 miles in that example... or every 6125 with an extra change if you wanna be super paranoid).

And I have no worries going 10,000 miles on my filter. That is just me though I guess as the rest of you seem to change it sooner.

Right out of my 2012 IS350C manual for the 350 recommended viscosity SAE 5W-30, if 5W30 not available 10W30 may be used however it should be replaced with 5W30 at the next change.
The 250 recommended viscosity is SAE 0W-20 if not available 5W-20 may be used but replaced with 0W-20 at the next oil change.
My dealer also told me that they will be putting synthetic in the 250s at the first change per Lexus, and doing 10K mile changes.

Does anyone use 0w-30? Or just stick with lexus recommended 5w-30 for the IS350 engines?
And I guess for the most part, everyone is happy with Mobil 1. But I have read over at BobIsTheOilGuy forums that Mobil 1 has cheapen it's stock base for the Mobil 1 synthetics in the last few years. However, doesn't seem to effect the Japanese engines much. I guess Japanese engines are more forgiving than the Audi, BMW, etc. engines.

I would also add that if you live out in the snow belt and run a full synthetic like Amsoil as I do I would recommend a filter change before and after winter planned into the 8K filter change schedule. Oil gets replaced every October just before the cold

I just got my 5k service and OC on a 2011 350. I was going to go full synth, but the dealer swayed me away. He said the 250's went synth from the factory, but not the 350's since the engines were working so much harder. I went with the blended (dino and synth) and (for now) will stay with 5k OC's.

His explanation makes absolutely zero sense....
the 350 engine works less hard most of the time since it's moving about the same size/weight car the 250 engine is.
But he compounds it by suggesting "working harder" is a reason to use less long lasting oil.
What?
Anyway, it's your money to waste changing every 5k... but as I've said every since 350 owner who has changed at 7500-10k, even on totally conventional oil, has come back with a perfect used oil analysis from the lab.
My personal opinion on synthetic blends is you pay for more no benefit at all, since you lose much of the reasons to be running synthetic in the first place (longer OCIs for example).... so if you're going to change way too often anyway don't compound it by needlessly buying more expensive oil.
