Default TRD Oil Filter for IS

Anyone use the PTR43-00079 oil filter in their IS? Just wondering if any one is using these filters?

Not on any 2ISs that I know of :

High Performance Oil Filter (PTR43-00079)

TRD high-performance oil filters help to provide state-of-the-art engine protection, which is achieved by using three plies of 100 percent synthetic glass/polyester blend filtration media for optimal efficiency. Uses the same tools as Genuine oil filters for replacement.

Haven't heard of anyone here using one either. Probably because the OEM filters are really good enough already and relatively cheap (super cheap from Sewell!)

I don't think we need it unless we race our car on the circuit.

Better spend the difference on the high quality engine oil.

I have one in my car now...first time using one, figured it couldn't hurt, plus I got it for free from a friend

I don't think there is any real need to use the TRD filter, as Toyota produces probably the highest quality OEM filter out there...

Anybody changing the filter in 5-10k miles anyway would be wasting $ on a synthetic media filter.

But I suspect with the TRD filter the folks who are running synthetic oil past 10-12k miles could do so without needing to change the filter. but haven't seen any UOAs either way to be sure.

(ie if you were gonna run your synthetic to 15-20k you'd want to change the OEM filter at 7500-10k... with this thing you might be fine to 15 or 20k with no filter change- UOA will be the only way to be sure)
