Default Advice on cleaning wheel fasteners

Today I notice the fasteners on my rims were starting to rust so I decided to clean them but had a little trouble trying to poke my fingers into those tiny fastener holes. I tried using Q-tips but it only cleaned about 80% of the dirt/rust and it took me around 15/20mins per rim. So was wondering if there is a better way to clean them and maybe a little less time.

Here is a picture of the fasteners I'm talking about in case its called something else.

I use a tooth brush for small crevices. Worth a shot. Also toothbrushes are amazing on our leather seats.

^ I would not recommend using a toothbrush to clean the car lol.

OP, have you tried using SONAX wheel cleaner? Might be worth it, it works really well without having to scrub!
