Default homelink without opener?

I have been wanting to setup my homelink, but we just bought a forclosed house and dont have a handheld opener. Ive looked and searched, but can find out how to set it up using just the door motor its self.

You can't, you will need the remote. You will need to re program your door opener for a new remote, THEN program your home link.

ok thanks. I picked up a universal one at lowes on the way home based on your post. I was hoping to figure out a way to avoid the 35$. oh well, you gotta pay to play I suppose.

Don't think so. There should be a learn button on the motor itself. See this link:

It depends if your garage door opener uses rolling codes security.

The learn button is just to synchronize the rolling codes. You still need the original remote to program the homelink system before you start with the learn button.

From the homelink website at http://www.homelink.com/faqs

My garage door opener doesn’t have a handheld transmitter. Will HomeLink still work?

No, you have to have a handheld transmitter or wireless keypad to program HomeLink

No it doesn't--you need the garage remote whether or not there are rolling codes.

You need "A" remote that is programmed to open "YOUR" garage door. If it is rolling codes, you need to use the learn button on the opener.

Like I said earlier...you need the remote.

IF you have a buddy with the same opener, you can reprogram his to work on your opener, set your car homelink up, and he can program his back to his opener.

I was refering to the post before mine. Not all garage door openers have learn buttons. Older models just have multiple pin switches to create your own "code" and then set the remote to that code. Yes, you still need a remote either way.

I have programmed my three vehicles (listed below) without using the remote.

We were just able to program our home link using the keypad. We took it off the side of the house and used it in the car like a remote and the programming worked.

A wireless keypad really is just a more sophisticated remote.

This link is no longer active. Is there another website with these instructions?
