Default New-B question [how to tell the difference between an AWD and a RWD is250]

Hi guys..

First real post here..(I searched the forums already)

New to Lexus and just had a quick question.

MY CAR

Year: 2008
Make: Lexus
Model: is250

Is there anyway to tell the difference between a AWD and a RWD is250?

I didn't get mine new so im not too sure and I been looking over the paperwork but cant find anything.

My other question is: Are the front brakes the same as the rear?

Only reason im asking is because its time for a brake job (PADS ONLY) and I want to order some online..

Sorry for the new-B questions..im here to learn a few things..so i don't mind being "schooled" lol

Thanks

The dealer should tell or go to lexusowners.com n put in the vin.....as for the brakes the front and back are different style pads...if you are ordering online and look for pads they will show the pics of front vs rear....

No need to call the dealer or visit the Lexus site if you have the VIN. Just check the fourth character. If it's a B it is RWD. If it's a C, it is AWD. If it's an F, it is the convertible.

1 way to tell is if there is a big LUMP in the driver's side foot well near the gas pedal. If it's the same amount of space as the passenger side, then it's RWD. But if there is that big bump that is kind of in the way of your right leg/foot, then it's AWD.

That would be obvious and hopefully he wouldn't be asking at this point. I don't have the models in question but isn't there a large hump in the divers area that is of some difference between the two. Maybe an owner can chime in with the certainty of the location.

As for the pads, you should be able to visually inspect them and see a difference. A great resource is Sewell.com. It organizes everything based on your model vehicle so you don't end up buying the wrong part. They're also a vendor on this site, so you can register with your CL user name and recieve a bit of a discount.

Hope that clears a few things up.

Thanks everyone!!! All post are very much appreciated...

The 4th letter on my vin is a B ...

Guess I'll have to drop by Lexus and see what they say about the break pads.

What am I looking on spending on labor?

What pads are you guys using?

I only drive my car to and from work freeway only and not too much traffic..

Not sure, mine didn't have the 'Lexus' and 'IS250 emblem on there when I got my 06 from previous owner. When I searched to purchase the emblems, AWD emblem was an option under the list.

OEM Low dust pads seem to be highly recommended here (researched because I have to do mine soon as well)

The badge is the easiest thing to spot, but easily removed (if someone wanted to).
The floor bulge is almost as easy to spot and there in every AWD.

There's no need to look for axles or anything else, just look at the floor. That being said, you can also look for front differential/axles or tire size (225/45R17 all around on the AWD, this size was never used for the rear on an IS250 RWD -- though that is easily changed as well if someone wanted to). Or take a look at the model code (GSE25 for IS250 AWD, GSE20 for IS250 RWD) or the VIN (JTHC for AWD, JTHB for RWD).

Front and rear brakes are not similar. There is no difference between AWD and RWD for IS250 brakes though.
