I don't have a drill or buffing wheel. Can you get good results by hand?

I took my car to the detail shop to get a scratch removed from my hood, and my detail guy buffed out my headlight and made it look brand new, so i couldnt get a before and after shot of them. Basically, with no real experience, here is what i learned:

You can do it yourself, but do not expect them to be absolutely clear as day, UNLESS

you use 2000 then 3000 grit, do not sand them too long, and have some type of mechanical buffer, not hand polish.

you also need a good polish, and a good protector substance to put on after the job is done. But, when i first did it, it really didnt turn out too bad, just not crystal clear.

Istarzan, if you dont mind them not being perfectly clear, but damn near close to it, you dont need a drill and buffing wheel, but its a lexus, so go buy one.

Lol, that money can go to some parts. I have a hand kit but haven't sanded it. Hmm.
