What causes lack of performance?

" I looked into Lexus after seeing my neighbor's IS350 in front of my house. The car I ended up buying was $26k. A month passes and the price went down to $23k. Two weeks later, $22k. Week later, $21k. I called them up and haggled them to 20,500. I saw no other options for the 3-series I liked so I went to check out the IS and ended up buying it for $20,300 with 49,270 miles on it. That was a pretty good deal to me. "
OP you wrote this in one of my threads a long time ago, I really hope however that is not the case. I would say Dyno the car before the body kit because the Dyno could reveal something that would make more upgrades on the car pointless..

Worst mileage I've EVER seen on my 350 was driving hard and all city driving, and still in the 18-20 range. Usual city mileage is closer to 22.
Usual highway is 28-30.
Lifetime average on the car is around 24, and I do 3/4 cityish driving.
(and no, your intake isn't relevant unless it's not installed correctly... which is certainly possible)

I was at 18 -19 mpg with f sport intake for the past three years but after installing invidia midpipe recently, it dropped to a flat 15 mpg for a week and now slowly climbing back up, currently at 16.4 mpg city... chi123 does ur car feel different everytime you turn it on? cuz sometimes my car feels really good (feels like it really has 300 horse) and some times it feels very slugish..

You guys seriously get some good gas mileage. I've been down to 6 MPG driving in the winter. On the highway, I've gotten 32 MPG and 24 MPG in the suburbs but once I get into Chicago streets, down to low to mid teens.
And yes, I have a 350 engine. It has a sticker with 2GR-FSE under the hood that doesn't seem like it's been tampered with. My friend's IS250 AWD engine looks different by the throttle body where it has some yellowish plastic that mine doesn't got and sounds slightly different than his. Also got the 4 piston calipers and vented rear rotors so I'm sure it's not an IS250 with an IS350 badge lol.
@Antihero, yes my car does feel sluggish at times (most of the time lol). One time, I did race an E92 M3 on the highway and beat it by a car length going up to 140 MPH but then I loose to a Matrix? It does seem like it's a different car at times but most of the time doesn't feel like 300 HP.

Your car is just strange. It has strong acceleration in areas where it shouldn't (beating an e92 m3 on a highway roll to 140??! There's no way our cars are capable of that), and it has weak acceleration where it should have strong acceleration (0 to 60 in 7 seconds).
Can you go out and take a video of a 0 to 60 run (on a "bad" day where it takes 7 seconds to get to 60)?
No brake torque, no need to do it on low gas or anything. Just make sure traction control is disabled and try to get a clean launch by simply pressing on the accelerator.
I want to see your car redline at 30 MPH in 1st gear. Truthfully, this isn't too far off from where 1st gear ends (~36 MPH).
I mean, you're not just getting bad wheel spin due to improper launching (stomping too hard too fast on the accelerator pedal) and then complaining about slow times, right?

Chi123, do you have a racetrack next to where you live? I would just take the car there for 2 runs and you will see what you get on you times based on the weather conditions.
