Ed with Woodfield Lexus,
I'd check the rear calipers, and water pumps. The water pumps tend to fail on those vehicles. Any questions or need more advice give me a call.

Good Luck w/ the purchase!

check to see if the recalls have been done like the valve spring and pedal recalls. Regular wear and tear items like brakes, tires.

if you have the VIN you can sign up at lexus.com and view the service history. Otherwise the dealer should be able to pull that information for you.

Even if it had a bad water pump if its a good deal jump on it. Water pump are what a few hundred bucks to replace.

if properly maintained, 90k is no problem. most people freak out when they see a high mileage vehicle which is silly

I'm at 165k...no problems other than fuel rail even after the recall, easy fix ($600)..shocks ($1000), fuel pump is fine right now, I have an appointment tomorrow so I'll let you know..also leak in transmission seal ($238)...other than that the rest of the stuff is DIY..rotors calipers Etc..

SIMPLE....TRY NOT TO GET A NORTHERN CAR. i wouldn't worry about the recalls. if they haven't been done, you can simply have them done. However, i would want a dealer maintained car. Hopefully the small issues like dash rattles and other annoying things have been taken care of. These engines are good engines and are not sludge motors. But there are plenty of idiots out there that don't change oil. If you take the oil cap off you
can see the intake cam gear. make sure it's clean and sludge free. And JUST LIKE ANY TIME YOU BUY A USED CAR. Make sure the readiness monitors are complete to make sure someone didn't just reset a check engine light.
-about the northern car thing, the water pumps, alternators, wheel bearings, and especially the rear brake calipers do not like corrosion and rust. Down here in the south we get a rude surprise every time a northern car rolls in.

are you on a budget? why not buy a car with lower mileage? maybe find a CPO or one with some type of warranty to have a piece of mind

CA will require a smog check with your purchase, make the sale dependent on a pass of smog check.
