Hi everyone,
I read a lot of stories about steering wheel failure causing accidents or having trouble keeping straight. Does still problem still exist with the new 2012 f sport

No.
If I'm not mistaken there's a TSB(L-SB-0016-11) for the "Notchy Steering Wheel Feel" or steering wheel failure you are mentioning however it doesn't affect your car.
There's also a TSB(L-SB-0174-08) for "Vehicle Pulling To One Side" but that doesn't affect your car either.

No worries. there was a recall for the racks on 06 and some 07 models. this was mainly for the "notchy feeling".
13 GS has a recall for the programming of the VGRS system on F-sport models only. this was due to the steering wheel not starting off straight. I'm not sure an accident ever happened, but if it did, it would be pulling out of a parking spot.
IS F-sport (or any IS) does not have VGRS
and to be clear on one thing with Electric power steering......the steering rack is always mechanically connected to the steering wheel through a torsion bar. Even if the battery came disconnected while driving and all power was lost, you can still steer the car. it will be heavier, just like steering a car with hydraulic power steering when the engine dies. But you can always steer the car.
No need to be worried. I bet there's a lot more cars out there with failures on hydraulic power steering.
