they also need to lighten the car. Audi, BMW and Cadillac are strongly focused on weight reduction.

Exactly, if we could lose 100 to 200lbs from the car while getting that 8 speed auto from the ISF I would have no problems with the engine carrying over.

The GS350 came out in 2007. The 2006 GS used the 3GR-FSE (GS300).

These cars though were available a model year ahead. i.e. 2006 GS300 was available in 2005 much like the 2006 IS350

Yup... as Hoovey mentions the GS350 was available in 2006 as I said, just labeled as an 07 model.

Either way, Lexus used the 2JZ from 91-05, so way longer than it has used the 2GR-FSE

Right. My point was just that the IS350 came out a year earlier (2005, MY2006) than the GS350 that's all (2006, MY2007).

I suppose the IS still has a pretty competitive motor in its class. I remember at the time I bought it, though, the power seemed impressive to me even compared to many performance cars outside its class. Cars such as the Mustang GT and Camaro SS have surpassed it today. The Genesis 4.6 is one example of a more luxurious car that also offers more power at a similar price point. Apples and oranges, I know, but it's a bit disappointing to me that the entry-level luxury performance sedan has remained relatively stagnant in terms of power while others seem to be upping their game. (It's especially relevant to me, personally, as someone who really values performance and would actually weigh a Mustang GT against a Lexus IS, among others.) Even within this class, competition has only gotten stiffer.

Maybe you guys are right, but I hope you're wrong. I'm ready for more power, or at least better fuel economy, in the 3IS.

IIRC, the 335 was introduced in 2007. 18-24 months or so after the IS350/GS350. And I don't believe the N54/55 was used in any model prior to that.

EDIT: Also, about the sales debate, apparently the IS has actually been selling better so far this year compared to last year. That seems to make this decision look more reasonable:

Looks like the injection system changed.....Stoichiometric direct-to-cylinder
injection system, maybe to reduce carbon build up?

Huh? the 250 has been direct injection only since it was introduced.

That's the cause of the problem.
