Some states charge a "Personal Proprty Tax" that is added into the price for the license. When I lived in SC, I had to pay about $450 a year for a late model SUV.

IMO this is a horrible way to collect a tax. Is better to put it into the gas price. Is easier to pay an extra 40 cents at the pump than collect $400 at the end of the year.
