Default Tire Rack closeout special on 255/40/18 Dunlop Sport Maxx GTs

Just thought I could help out a few members on here with this deal I came across the other day. Tire Rack has a closeout special currently on Dunlop Sport Maxx GT tires in the OE spec tire size for 2IS 18" rear wheels (255/40/18). MSRP is $305 a tire...but right now they are going for $135 a piece before shipping/taxes.

If I remember, my '06 IS350 came factory with these or similar Dunlop Sport Maxx tires.

Hope this can help someone out.

Yeah, I saw this a couple weeks ago when I needed to replace my tires. Had to do a double-take, but then I realized it's because the tires were manufactured in 2008. I ultimately decided that didn't really bother me, though, since I probably wouldn't use them for more than 2-3 years anyways.

... As a bonus, the tires I got actually were manufactured in February 2009.

Be aware, though, that because of the special circumstances of this pricing, tire shops like Discount Tire are not likely to match the price. So you will have to buy from Tire Rack. One other thing -- although the tires seem to have very good dry traction, I wouldn't buy them if you live in an area where it rains a lot, based on reviews I've read. I haven't yet really driven them in the rain myself, so I can't comment from first-hand experience.

I've only had them on for about 350 miles, so they're just now getting broken in from my understanding. They certainly have more grip than my disappointing Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Pluses, though. But so far, they still break loose from a stop under WOT on concrete in the Texas summer.

Yeah, you're still in the break-in period. I would expect the tires to hook-up good at the line.

I might have to get a pair. A nail punctured the sidewall on one of my Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires that had a lot of thread left. They came with the car which I bought several months ago. I don't want to have two different tires in the rear.

Was gonna jump on this deal 2 months ago but it says "2008 production" so I backed off and got me the PSS instead.

2008 production is fine so as long as the tire has been properly stored.. If it was 2006 then maybe i'd have second thoughts.

Yea.. I guess but my previous tires were defective so I was extra caution this time around and just got some brand new ones instead.
