Default FYI, post-warranty repairs

I have the platinum extended warranty for a 2007 IS350 and glad I do. At 61K and 5 years old, the car needs a new rear sun-shade and a new instrument cluster. Now the instrument cluster is just a dumb design. The problem I observed was that the little needles that indicates speed and RPM on the speedometer and tachometer aren't lighting up as fully as they once did... so to fix those two little needles, they need to replace the whole cluster...

btw - random thought, but it could be helpful to forum participants to have a STICKY thread to simply report post-warranty issues that came up so that others who are in warranty can weigh the pros/cons of getting an extended warranty and others who are considering buying a used car can weight the pros and cons of getting CPO vs just an out-of-warranty car.

the end.

Yeah the needle's not lighting up properly has actually happened to quite a few members. If you are under warranty, the dealerships will just replace the entire cluster for you instead of just the needle.

A post warranty thread doesn't really mean much because most of the common issues on the 2IS will happen at any time. For some it happens during warranty, for others outside of warranty and for some lucky people, it never happens. It's just easier to know the common issues and know that if the 2IS you are getting hasn't already had those issues and had them repaired, you have a greater chance of getting those issues in the future.

But for anyone buying a 2IS, I would recommend getting a warranty. I'm so glad I got mine CPO, I can't believe how much money it has saved me now. Without counting the replacement piston job due to the Carbon Build up issue, i've had at least $3,000+ of work done under the warranty. All of that was between 30k and 70k miles.
