You don't have to take off the entire steering wheel just the airbag / horn in the middle. There are 2 little plastic latched covers on the bottom corners of the steering wheel. Pop those off and there is a torq bolt holding the airbag / horn on. Remove those with a Torq bit and take it out. If you need pictures goto sewell and look up the instructions for installing the steering damperner.

After disconnecting your battery, you can pop off those plastic covers on the sides using a flathead screwdriver. You'll see two Torx-30 screws behind, and you just loosen them up. The screws don't actually come out though. After the torx screws have been loosened you can pull the airbag compartment out. You'll have to disconnect a ground wire along with two other wires (one black, one orange) that have pop-up tabs and then you can completely remove the airbag compartment and do your thing.

Expanding upon this, MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY FIRST before messing with the airbag. I don't think it's happened to anyone on the forum, but if the air bag blows up in your face as you're removing it, you're gonna have a bad time.
