Steel rod hit my bumper
Today, while driving home from work on the freeway, a steel pipe/rod flew off a truck a couple cars in front of me and hit my 2010 GFM IS250 with less than 15,000 miles on the odometer. The bumper is cracked all the way through and needs to be replaced. My question is, if I go through insurance, will my rate go up? Or should I just suck it up and leave it as is. Thanks for your help in advance.

I'm 17 and I had rugs flying all over hitting my hood and bumper on the freeway to getting keyed multiple times. Just go through insurance, with comprehensive, you're covered. Your rate shouldn't raise.. if it does, maybe by 10 bucks.. or 20.
On the bright side, you can go get a new 2011 bumper if you want to go that route, but accidents happen!

Your comp will cover it if it flew off of the truck and never hit the ground first. If it hits the ground and then you hit it it is considered a collision and you will be charged as an accident. I just had this happen to me and my comp took care and no raise in insurance. Also my comp deductible is only $250 not $1000 like collision. Make sure you tell your insurance that it flew off of the truck like you said and it did not hit the ground before it hit you. They won't expect you to have gotten the license number of the truck as you are busy trying to figure what happened and not trying to chase down the truck. I had about 10k miles when mine happened.

You have to ask your insurance company about your policy. My rep said that any claim under $1k will not raise my monthly rate. And if it's less than your deductible, then no sense going through insurance. This is where you ask them if this is covered and if you have to pay the deductible...I don't think you will since it's not your fault.
Sorry to see this and good luck getting it fixed!

Thanks for everyones comments. You all are very helpful. I will talk to the insurance. They are pretty crafty as to deny or accept collision. I am beginning to hate them already and feel that they just take my money for nothing. Might as well bend over backwards....
