Well, is your car slowly moving already when you change gears?

Patience is a virtue and need to give time for the people who may know the time to answer. Most likely, out of those 48 views, 0 actually knew the answer; it's not a surprise. At least give 24 to 48 hours.

My guess would be, the engine is cold and would naturally rev higher so it the car feels like it wants to move. Now if the car were already warmed up, it would most likely not do this.

That is correct. I know exactly what you're talking about OP. I asked about this in a thread before and I got the same answer. It's just cause the car is revving higher when the engine is cold like Sango said. Just hold the brake down harder when switching into D or R and it wont jerk so hard.

Just to add on.

I know two other like symptoms. The first is if you're going about 40 mph/70 km/h, the car won't engage to 6th gear. The other is at those same speeds, let go of the gas and the car feels like it doesn't want to slow down as if there was cruise control for the same reason.

Once it's warm, the above symptoms also disappear.
