Default How to secure trunk lid?

If I'm hauling something that sticks out of the trunk (lid only half-closed), and wanted to secure the lid with a bungie cord, how would I? I have hooks on the bottom but nothing to connect to on the underside of the lid (the emergency release isn't strong enough).

Sorry if it's been asked before, but searching this site is painfully slow if you don't hit the perfect search term the first time, and after about 15 mins wasted on that I decided to post.

Leave it open with padding incase it slams shut

Run the bungie cord from the bottom over the trunk and back to the same spot. If you have the trunk lid slightly open, there should be a slight gap between the trunk and rear glass to route it through.

I'm not an expert in trunk abuse, but it seems like potential damage from letting it swing open is potentially as bad or worse.

Yeah, I thought about that, I just need a longer bungie cable (the one I had laying around is 3ft I think.

I just wondered if there was some sort of hidden way I was missing, Lexus sometimes has slick tricks like that. I honestly didn't even know there was a button to release the trunk near the license plate until I had owned the car over two years... I had been pulling the trunk release inside the car each time I didn't feel like getting the keyfob out of my pocket. lol...

[On an unrelated note, its been a while since I've been on this site, and the slowdowns I mentioned before are not just in search. The whole site is becoming hard to use and probably won't get better -- hitting a scalability wall. It will be unusable soon at this pace].

Here is an option:

There are several other such straps out there. Google is my friend.

Google is my enemy but I keep my enemies closer than friends

Being serious for a minute, my original question isn't what can I tie it down with, it's more like I already have a 3ft bungie cord, now what do I attach it to? I have hooks and various anchor options where the cargo net hooks or bed of the trunk, but nothing on the trunk lid. Most cars I've had in the past have hooks on the inside of the lid.

The straps have buckles on the end that use the existing car latches. The top latch will close on the buckle end and then can be removed by using the car key to open the latch again. The bottom buckles just snaps onto the existing latch. Maybe hard to explain but these type straps do work.

Aha, it goes all the way around the outside trunk? (similar to a longer bungie cable but with the advantage of adjustable size)

I didn't understand this one -- pull what lining back? Are you referring to the lining under the trunk lid?
