Default Urgent - need help identifying damaged rubber part

Hey guys,

i was modifying my dust shield (Because it started touching) and in the process of cutting it I accidentally poked the rubber bushing(?) with the edge of my dust shied ... it punctured it and some grease(?) came out.

Does anyone know what the part is called and the part #? (It's some sort of steering joint)

Is it something I need to replace ASAP (Due to some grease escaping)?

Thanks
Raj

Dust boot for the lower ball joint.
Keeps grease in & dirt out. I wouldn't worry too too much unless you are on a gravel road often.
You can buy replacements but lower arm has to come off to install it. Might as well change the whole joint while you have it apart.

I believe that's your ball joint. It doesn't need "urgent" replacement but you will want to replace it sooner rather than late, IMO. I can't tell if that's LH or RH from the picture but its only a $71 part: 4333039625 or 4334039505.

Wow! What caused the dust shield to start touching and what kind of a device were you using to make the cut? I wouldn't let it go too long without attention as the ball joint will probably wear out quicker especially if moisture and dirt infiltrated the joint.

I meant to reply earlier, but got a little busy.

Thanks for al the replies!

jkeifer3,

I had already modified the dust shield to fit my 350 calipers/rotors, but it was touching something whenever I made a hard left turn... so I decided to just "cut" some off by bending the metal back and fourth ... happened to knick that rubber part with sharp edge of the dust shield.

I think later on I'll just buy the 350 dust shields...

anthrax144,

THanks for the link - its the LH side.

I've fixed slightly damaged boots like that before by cleaning the damaged area well and just applying super glue. Of course it is best to replace the boot, but its a cheap DIY temp fix.
