Whenever I open my trunk it pops open about an inch, just unlatching itself. I've noticed that when you open other cars trunks the shoot open all the way, is there any way to increase the pressure behind the trunk hydraulics?
not to jack the thread, but does anyone else have an issue when popping the trunk it seems like its very heavy and as if theres molasses on the hinges while opening it?

yes i also get that, its when i try to open it faster than it wants to go
Have owned my IS for six years and never even thought about it. I don't need the trunk popping open like some cheap import and I don't have an issue raising the lid after unlatching it. And closing it is a breeze, just lower the lid to within a foot of closing and just let it drop quietly. No need to slam it.

That is normal operation, let it open on its own. If one or both the strut assemblies is worn out, then you'll have the opposite effect. It feels very easy to open, but once you let go, it will almost free fall and slam. At worse, if you don't open it all the way and think it was full open and let go with your head going in the trunk; the trunk lid ends up falling, end up getting a part of your body hit by the trunk lid instead.

No, thats not tthe problem we are having, yes the trunk will open on its own but thats after you already open it half way and then it slooowwwlly opens, takes too long, so I open it forcfully and i can feel the back pressure working against me

That back pressure you feel is by design. I'm no engineering genius but I would venture to say that the design is on purpose so that if you only open / close the trunk halfway that it stays put and doesn't swing up too fast or down too fast. It sort of stays suspended in the middle section. Near the top it will lift up and near the bottom it will gently drop to shut.
