Default Got bumped today...

I bought a brand-new 2011 IS250 one year ago. I have kept it in flawless condition. I came to a stop at an intersection today when a mid-size SUV bumped into me from behind at no more than 10 mph. It was rainy and she was following too closely. To my surprise there was no dents, scuffing, or paint damage. There is only a tiny indentation like a "c" from one of the front license plate screws. The indentation is barely noticeable and can easily be dismissed as a tiny scratch. I certainly know it's not worth repainting the whole bumper for something so small. The body shop said the car is fine but in order to determine if there is any internal damage they would have to take off the rear bumper. I am thinking they'll probably mess it up worse dropping the rear bumper. I wonder if it is worth the hassle of doing that. What do you guys think?

You more then likely have nothing underneath, get it fixed if it bothers you.

At 10 mph, your bumper was pushed in and flexed back out. Bumpers are made to do that, but usually for a lower speed impact. I'd be concerned about future paint cracking off or a weakened/misaligned mount. Carefully check everything on the bumper, from top to bottom and corner to corner. Be sure there is absolutely no more damage. 10 mph should do more than a screw mark.

keep an eye on the paint starting to "spider web". I got bumped a few years ago and nothing happened but a few months later I noticed the paint was starting to get a outta wack.

+1 on this. I had the same thing happen with a different car and the paint eventually started to peel.

too slow of a hit to do anything on the inside IMO, but if it will make you feel better take it off and look..

Had a similar incident happen to me, but in a different vehicle. License plate bolts in the rear bumper and an inditation on the license plate. Adjuster ended up spotting breakage of a couple plastic pieces underneath that the bumper cover used to attach itself to the under body. Cut a check bhecause of this for a new OEM bumper in my color.

GL!

If you have have to get a new bumper. Make sure it's a Lexus Japan's bumper because they are factory painted.

The ones which come in North America are not, as they need to be painted therefore it's hand painted and would not have the essential same quality or identical color match like the factory painted one which is done by robot.

Thanks for all the replies. That would be ideal to get a prepainted OEM bumper. Where should I look to order one?
