Default Oil Change and Dashboard Alert

Hi Guys,

I currently have around 7,200 miles on my car. I had my first oil change with the Lexus Dealer back in October at around 2,000 miles. I recently just got an alert on my dashboard saying I'm due for a maintenance check.

I am wondering if the maintenance check alert is showing is because the Lexus dealer had programmed it to show on a certain date or if it was passed a certain mileage from my last maintenance check?

Thanks and sorry if I am unclear. Last question, what is the ideal intervals in mileages for an oil change? It's a 2011 Lexus IS 250.

Thanks again!!!

maint req starts flashing at 4500 miles, at 5000 miles it stays constantly on.

It comes on every 5000 mi after it's reset. So it sounds like the dealer may have reset it at the 2000 mi service.

Oftentimes, the technician may have just forgotten to reset the Oil Maintenance; I had that happen to me after a goodwill oil change from CarMax after picking up my IS 250 AWD (drove it for less than 100 miles and the light came up). So I just reset it myself and I do that every time I change my oil.

There's a thread here on how to reset it or ehow has a simple instructions to reset the light.

Ironically, they knew how to get into the oil service on the navigation and set up a reminder but didn't know how to reset the light.

I too have an 11 IS250 and oil changes are every 10k miles, rotation every 5k. You will get the oil change light at 5k even though its not necessarily time to change the oil.
