Question Installing a front centre speaker

Hi everyone

I have the standard 13 speaker stereo set up on my car.

Can anybody tell me how to install a front dash centre speaker, in the same location as the 14 speaker ML system? It is possible without changing the amplifier to an ML unit?

Many thanks as always

I'm curious to know what options are there with the center speaker for the non ML speaker system.

When my system was done we added a 3.5" Hertz mid in the center and added its own amp.

Crazy how many man hours went into that build.

I remember when that thread came up, I had joined clublexus 3 months before. Man I almost emptied my bank account and donated a kidney after seeing this setup. So sick.

Thanks buddy, that means a lot. It's crazy to think I originally had a JL Audio 12W6 with a JL Audio 500/1 amp. That was fine till I wanted MORE. Then I decided to do it right.

No problem man I appreciate the details in a build and nothing was spared on that one. That was more than doing it right, more like ***** to the wall lol

I still want to upgrade my stock system one day.... One day

Thanks both

Gonna have to have a really good read of Mariano's write up as his system is nothing shy of amazing!!!

Any quick hints and tips to adding just the center speak would be appreciated as I'd prefer not to strip my car and remove alot of the stock trim.

What are you thinking will drive the extra speaker if you don't want to take anything else apart or add more parts? the stock amp doesn't have a spare channel to drive it.

That's why I'm asking about other peoples experiences and opinions. I'd PREFER not to dismantle the whole car, or add a vast amount of new parts but i;m happy to do this for the extra speaker if necessary. That's why I joined the forum to talk to other people who know more about this stuff than me.

I know there isn't a spare channel on the stock amp, but don't want to jump and buy an ML amp if there is alternative option.

Buying an ML amp won't help you either, unless you plan to replace the other 13 speakers too... the non-ML speakers are 4ohm, the ML ones are 8 ohm (and the relevant amps so configured)- plus the rear speaker locations are different on an ML system.

I'm not an audio expert, but it seems like your only option to get sound from a new center speaker without adding/changing the amp would be to sum the signals going to two other l/r speakers already in the car and have that signal come out the center speaker... not sure there's be much of any benefit to that though.

Ok thankyou. I didn't know about the difference between the stock and ML amps.

I think I might back off the idea for a bit. Especially if you don't think it would be much benefit.
