Please help the newbie !!! (running non-staggered in snow)
Hi Everyone,
Im new here. This will be my first winter in the is350. I have looked everyone i possibly could and called many shops for this answer and everyone seems to tell me a different thing.....
What im dying to find out is, CAN YOU RUN A SQUARE SETUP FOR TIRES ON THIS CAR?!
I have heard you can do 215/50/17 on all 4 and then ive heard you must do 225/45/17. i actually had another shop tell me if your dropping to 17 from 18 then 205/45/17 is the way to go!
can please someone? anyone? shed some light on this topic? is one better then the other? does it throw of your traction control? i have also heard you must keep the tries staggered and dont run a square setup. it can cause transmission issues down the road?!? At this point im lost. i have been in talks with the dealers, tirerack, oktire, simplytire. and everyone has told me something different. Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated. thanks again

I've been running 225/45/17's on my 350 for the past 2 winters with no issues. You don't want to go too skinny as the car is pretty heavy.
I did it mainly b/c I want to be able to rotate them if necessary. I got my bridgestone ws-70's at Costco but they wouldn't install for me b/c the computer said it required a staggered setup. I just ordered the tires then took them to my garage to have them mounted on some OEM stockies I got off CL.

Thanks Embolism.
but when you say no issues......traction control isnt going haywire on u? everything is running as it would with the oem 18 sizes (assuming u go back to staggered setup come summer?)

sorry, didn't see your follow up question. That's correct. I run stock 225/40/R18 front and 255/40/R18 rear in the summer with no issues.
225/45/R17 is pretty close in rolling diameter to the 18 inch setup so your speedo might be off by 3% in the winter but it's not an issue. Traction control won't be affected either.
