Default Measuring Brake Rotor Wear

When the OEM front brake rotors start wearing-in you start getting a step from the edge lip and I am told that the step from the edge to the actual rotor surface is measured to determine the actual wear. Can anyone tell me what the max step is to determine if the discs need changing?

Mine has a step of 2.8mm from the edge to the actual rotor surface. Just wondering when I will need to change the rotors. I've had them for a few years now.

thanks

Taken from another Lexus forum ;

"Min thickness on rotors is 27mm front, 16.5mm rear"

With using the correct caliper, you can meaure the rotors thickness. One of these is useful for this :
