Default $165 for a brake fluid flush - fair or steep?

I need a brake fluid flush. I am not a DIY guy. Local dealer who has always been fair quoted $165. Does this sound reasonble?

Far from reasonable.

I paid $60 at my mechanic, which is market price here IN CANADA

I can only assume USA would be even cheaper

It's a very easy job. Shouldn't cost that much IMO. I think 50-70 is a more reasonable price to pay someone to do it for you.

an hour of labor (depending on your mechanic) is more than enough..

For a dealer - yes that's about what it's gonna be. I believe my dealer charged $139.99 + tax, but I had a "gift certificate" that dropped it down $50 so I just had them do it since the car was already there for other service anyways.

In general though, not really, you can get a better price at an independent mechanic.

I paid my bud $30 for an hour of his time and use of his lift. I agree that $165 is high to me, but usually anything at the dealership is high.

Oh, does the $165 INCLUDE the OEM Toyota brake fluid?

I probably would just buy OEM fluid/or something equivalent and have a local mechanic take care of it for significantly less. I would call around first and see what the average charges are.

Brake fluid is included. Thanks for the feedback. Sounded steep to me.

Take 30 minutes. Do it yourself and use jack stands. If you do not have all the equipment to do it then you might as well just pay someone else. No matter what if you don't do it yourself then you are getting ripped off.
