Default Bought a used 2008 IS 250...how should I maintain it?

I bought a used 2008 IS 250 AWD this summer. It currently has 92K miles on it.

I'm interested in keep it properly maintained. Although, I'm wondering if bringing it to a Lexus dealership every 5,000 miles and paying the money they ask for their standard maintenance is really necessary. This is not my only vehicle...I bought it to drive around about half the year as more of a pleasure vehicle.

Given the mileage, I'm wondering if there are certain things I should have done to it, without necessarily following the maintenance guidelines in the manual. If it's okay to go this route...what are some things I should have done?

Thank you!

It's a Lexus... You do routine maintenance, it lasts forever. Yes, your oil should be changed every 5000 miles and it is much cheaper to do that yourself.

If the 60k service was done, why would he need to do either of those? Obviously that's me assuming that it was completed.

perhaps he was assuming that even though they may well have been changed at 60k, he doesn't know how the car was treated nor driven and changing the spark plugs again *may* be a good idea even though they're to be changed, as scheduled, again at 120k.

just a guess.

Take it to a local Toyota dealer for oil changes...usually 1/2 the price of Lexus. Same oil and filter.

Amen! Other than the carbon build up issue with the 250s, the maintenance schedule is quite easy to maintain and the DIY threads here make them quite easy, even for a novice. Change your oil and enjoy your car. You bought a Lexus!

Thanks everyone...this is EXACTLY the info I was looking for. Given I bought the car at 86K miles, I do not know it's maintenance history. I do know that it was a highway driver that was well taken care of by one owner. So I'll probably do the brake fluid and plugs in addition to the other stuff.

@Slammer1...can you elaborate on the "carbon build up issue"?
