thanks all for the comments.

mmfm , no I haven't changed it yet . and I will probably not change it since your're on 200,000 km ( masha'allah ) and with no problems .

kurtz / I was hoping you would give us your opinion since you seem to know alot about this issue form other threads, If the dealership has the required equipment , do you advice to change the ATF ?

If there's no problems? Probably not... I certainly don't intend to, but then I don't put a ton of miles on the car either...

I suppose if you're REALLY wanting the car to make it to 500,000 miles or something with the OEM transmission or you drive in some very extreme duty conditions (and you might if you're in Saudi Arabia I suppose) you might consider doing it every 100k or something if the price is reasonable... but otherwise I'd take Lexus at their word that it doesn't need it over any reasonable lifetime of the vehicle.

I just left my car in a pro Toyota/lexus workshop today for changing the brake pads + ATF

The specialist confirmed to me that they change 20 to 50 cars's ATF weekly and they had no issues.

He said for a Lexus IS350 ; The ATF and filter shall be changed every 50,000 miles or (70000 km for an IS300 )

Total cost for changing the fluid and filter is 160 $

.........
Talked to him about the possibility of Gearbox malfunctioning , He said it happens if you changed the fluid in non- experinced workshop only.

My odo is 86k mile and I told him to change it

Did you confirm they're using the proper equipment to do a full fluid change, and not just pulling the plug on the pan and changing 10% of the fluid?

(and I'm sure he said to change both every 50k miles, why wouldn't the place charging you for the service suggest you get the service regularly? )

Hi, they will for sure only vacuum the fluid from the pan which shall take out about 35% only. That's why it isn't risky.

I am the one who decided to change it since I bought the car used @ odo reading 77k mile and I have no idea if the fluid has been ever been changed.

However, The fluids life depends on where do you live. I am in Saudi Arabia and the temperature here rise up to 130 F which is hot as fu**

Changing the whole fluid is can only be done by opening the gearbox it self.

I only considered changing because I accelerate so often .So I believe that I already burned some of the fluid

Hope that helps...

It's also not super useful IMHO

And it's more like 10-15% of the fluid from doing only the pan FYI... which makes it even less useful IMHO. You'd need to do this process at least a half dozen times to have even changed MOST of the fluid... at $160 a pop you're near $1000 to hope you changed most of your fluid once.

I'd just throw that in the bank in case I ever have a transmission problem some day.

Not true at all- you swap out the heat exchanger for a fluid exchange adapter (looks vaguely like a hockey puck) and you can change all the fluid using the machine.... this has existed for at least a year or two now (though it's possible nobody in Saudi has one)

That's the only ATF change I'd bother with at all if I really felt it was needed (and for Saudi might not be a bad idea, especially driving it hard, but doesn't sound like your dealer is capable of it)
