IS250 or IS350 - Reliability and Potential Issues
I’m in a market for a used IS250/350 and was wondering if buying an IS350 with higher miles (93k) would be better than buying an IS250 with lower miles (57k) assuming the price, options and mechanical/physical condition are same.
I’ve been reading that IS250 has common carbon buildup issue that does not exist on IS350 and other potential issues as well. I don’t mind the lower HP on IS250 but want to buy a more reliable vehicle.
What things should I look at when buying a used IS250 or 350? I do pull up service records from Lexus Drivers website with a VIN before a testdrive. Would I be able to tell if the IS250 has the carbon buildup issue with a testdrive or used car inspection by a mechanic?

The carbon build up issue is covered on most 250's with a 9 year/Unlimited mile warranty....so don't worry TOO much about that issue. If you feel the car shaking at idle a lot, its probably carbon build up...that's really the only apparent way to know you have carbon build up (other than having a check engine light). The 350 has some issues (i.e. Valve Spring recall) but that issue is also covered by Lexus. A lot of the other commonly discussed issues are shared between both models - i.e. Dash Rattle, Water pump failure, etc.
If possible, I would recommend buying one CPO.
Best decision I ever made!!!!
