Question

Why did you have to warm up your car for 40 minutes ? Isn't 2-3 minutes just enough ?

Because the Ice was so thick & hard on the windshield it wouldnt melt fast enough or get soft enough for the ice scraper.

Freezing rain and ice is a very dangerous combination. Tip for next time: Use the ice scraper (if you have one) to tap at the ice near the edges of the windshield. Once you chip enough ice away to get through to the windshield, you can scrape the rest off pretty easily.

We had some freezing rain in Seattle last year and I couldn't open my door. What was your trick?

He's joking that the layer of ice will protect your paint from rock chips.
