I used the Hertz 3 ways up front and added a Hertz 3 1/2" mid in the center.

You will need adapters for the woofers to mount properly, but they are easy to find on eBay and relatively inexpensive. The mounting brackets that come with the tweets should work fine. The factory mid is 3.2" (I think) and a quick search shows that the JLs you are talking about use a 4" mid. Not sure if those will fit. Honestly, I have never been impressed with JL Audio component or coaxial speakers. Lots of other options for the money that JL gets for theirs (Mariano aint gonna like me for saying that..... lol). I run Hertz too and they are amazing. I didn't run a mid in my doors (just woofers and tweets) and even pulled the tweets out of the rear doors later, as the rear is used for "fill" in an SQ car.

The JL C5's have a 4" mid and our doors have a 3". That's one of the reasons I opted for the Hertz 3 ways. I compared bothe the C5's and the Hertz in the same sound room using the same head unit and same song. The Hertz win my ears. Look into them if you want quality sound.

Here are the Hertz components and some pics.

Here are the 3 way Hertz components, which will work in our cars.....

These are only a couple hundred bucks more than the JL set sells for on eBay, and are made by little Italian guys in white lab coats. If you are looking to pay more than that, go with the Audson Voce series, Focal or Morel. They are beautiful drivers but quite expensive. Not to mention you won't fully appreciate them using the factory HU and amp. The Hertz really does seem to be your best choice, whether you go 2 way or 3 way. I installed my HSK165s over two years ago and they still play beautifully.

I have a set of boston pro components that my friend gave me but they are 2 way. should get a pair 3.5" like this or just buy a 3 way component?

you can use those since you already have them. You don't "NEED" 3 ways. I just was replacing everything anyway and found a 3 way set. I believe Slammer 1 used a pair of 2 ways.
