Default Noob here. What the heck is this?

Hey guys. I've tried looking all over for the answer. Google, searching, etc. But can't find anything on this. My 09 is250 has something next to each fog light. I've attached a picture so you can see but I have no idea what it is and if there's something else that's supposed to be there. It's ugly and I want to change it haha.

I believe that is what i would call a "faux air inlet" or what others would call and ugly, non-functional piece of plastic used to take up space they decided not to use in the design of the fog light.

Haha funny. I just bought the car and that blueish/white stuff isn't dirt or anything. It's almost like it's starting to rot away. Does anyone make some sort of cover or something for these that match the bumper or something?

Oh yeah didn't even think about that! I haven't really messed with them to much lately since I've only had the car a week. I'll have to clean them real good and see what happens. Thanks everyone for the help!

or you can make it like this (junack):

I made one for myself before with just the outside LED making it like a triangle look. It has retired after 2 years of use and have not had time to make another.

It would be cool to make an actual functional brake cooling duct out of this.

Errrr, you already have two factory ducts inset into the outer edges of the front lower grille.
