I feel like a fool. In March, bought 2006 IS250 with 132000 miles for $6700. Since then, paid $1k for brakes, $500 for 2 tires, and just paid $4200 to Lexus for rear axles and new shocks at the dealership.
i’m going to cry if something else comes about. Does anyone think it’’s not as bad as it sounds?

Except for caliper failure/seizure, the above is all "consumables"...meaning, in time, you'll need to replace them as general maintenance items. The problem is paying Lexus stealership prices for their labor. Time to find a shop in your town that specializes in just Japanese imports; they'll tend to be able to save you some money in parts/labor.
Hey guys new to the forum here and just found this thread. I just got an is250 and I got it for a killer deal. The kicker was it has 265k miles on it over 250 and it drove great untill about 6 months ago I took it too my local Lexus dealership for recalls and that happened to be 300 miles away. (I live in Idaho and closest dealer is in SLC) it did great all the way down and back but I am suffering from carbon buildup. So do with that what you will. Either rebuilding the 4gr or going for a 3gr swap.
A: Super-Expensive option: Top-end rebuild like the original Lexus bulletin
B: Expensive option: Oil catch can mod + walnut blasting
C: Less expensive: Oil catch can mod + STP pro-series GDI cleaner (and repeat once/year on the cleaner)
I'm going for Option C - I've already done the cleaner and my catch can should arrive next week.
Just bought one pretty cheap that has 330,000 Kilometers on it, so that is about 205K miles. I bought it from the original owner so I know its had the spark plugs changed and brakes done at one point. I just finished doing the hood latch and have to do the exhaust, and the mirrors, but it runs pretty well.

Man...That is crazy for the driveshafts and rear suspension. I replaced mine DIY. I found a couple of low mileage OEM axles from a junk yard for $65 each shipped to my door. They were all rusty from being back East so I used some steel wool and matte black spray paint to clean them up. I installed KYB coil overs all the way around ... I think it was $250 for all 4. I replaced the isolators etc with genuine Lexus parts for roughly $16 per isolator so ~ $130. Lexus OEM rotors were $220 for the pair and Akebono brake pads for $70. 4 Sumitomo tires for $660 installed. It really pays to do a lot of the maintenance yourself. My car currently has 182k miles.
Just turned 200,000 miles about a month ago on a 2006 IS250 purchased new. Still running strong mechanically but as with most cars as they age you experience other problems. The paint is beginning to fade a little (I live in Fl, but it is garaged), the radio amp finally gave up about 50,000 miles back, cracks and a few tears in the leather seats etc., it's not the basics that make the car stop and go, those are doing well. I did have to replace the entire front left headlight assembly recently because the headlight went out, that was expensive. I am now hearing gremlins when I start the car as the a/c system is opening and closing vents, this continues long after it normally should, so probably before long I either won't have a/c or heat somewhere in the car. I also recently had two separate instances about 4 months apart when on starting the car first thing in the morning and trying to back out of the garage the power steering didn't work. Both times I turned the car off, started it again immediately, and the power steering was fine, so that issue is still an unknown. All in all, it's been a solid car.
other than the known VVTi cam rattle on cold startup, my is250 is going strong at over 205k miles. the fuel pressure sensor went out 1k miles back which stranded me but all is well after that replacement.
everything still works on this thing...love it! i'm surprise the AFS still works as the lights have always been set to auto most of it's life!
i traded my in 2008 is 250 for a 2015 gs350. it had 206,000 miles and going very strong. it needed new tires, new radiator, stereo was iffy, needed front shocks. it was running very well, no complaints from me.
the gs is good but so far i had to change the seals around the sunroof and the driver's seat squeaks like an old mattress. IS's rule in my book.
2010 IS250 AWD, 174k miles. I bought it 5 months ago and have been gradually shaking out failing parts on the dirt roads of Vermont. It's been really cold here the past two weeks and I feel like it's contributing to the rapid deterioration of some components. Currently experiencing some sort of fuel filler neck/hose leak, and recently had some problem with the starter wiring that was intermittently causing the car to not start. Otherwise, I love the car and it drives like a champ. I just know I'm going to spend the first year replacing all sorts of stuff that was probably going to fail eventually anyway.
